"What I like about the KRK VXT is two-fold: The Kevlar woofer is a wonderful thing; it gives and takes but it is not stiff. The silk tweeter gives you a little more separation between the minute frequencies. I monitor at whisper-quiet levels to downright loud, and there’s no ear-fatigue at all. I don’t know how you can make that accurate of a speaker at the price range you do!"
Dan Spitz’s expansive resume boasts stints from that of rock icon to timepiece designer. As the original lead guitarist of thrash metal outfit Anthrax, which exploded on the music scene in 1993, Spitz hung up his guitar in 1995 to pursue the art of fine watch-making in Switzerland. His own line of custom designed timepieces, SpitzWatch, was the result of that study. After a decade hiatus, Anthrax reunited in 2005, embarking on a 2-year world tour that was captured on the DVD, “Anthrax: Alive 2”.
In the spring of 2010, Spitz performed alongside an all-star musical cast in the Broadway rock musical, “The 12”, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan, with music, lyrics and story concept by award-winning composer Neil Berg.
Spitz’s latest musical outing, DeuxMonkey, features an assemblage of heavy-metal stalwarts: vocalist Wade Black (Crimson Glory, Seven Witches, Disasterpeace), bassist Peter Baltes (Accept) and drummer Patrick Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen). In preparation for their recording and global touring cycle, Spitz needed a speaker that would represent his guitar correctly in order to build presets for his custom effects processors.
“I’m using the VXT’s to faithfully recreate the sounds of the old Anthrax tracks, as well as a series of classic combinations of amps and mics, so accuracy and transparency in my monitor is critical. The VXT’s translate great. They’re right on the money!”
