Skunk Anansie

Named after Anansie, a trickster spider in West African and Caribbean folklore, the punk/alternative rock band SKUNK ANANSIE is one of Britain's most successful acts, having spent a total of 141 weeks on both the singles and album charts. The group's lineup includes Skin (Deborah Anne Dyer) as lead vocalist, Cass (Richard Keith Lewis) on bass, Ace (Martin Ivor Kent) on guitar and Mark Richardson on drums. SKUNK ANANSIE has released five studio albums, one reissue and sixteen singles. Its debut album, Paranoid and Sunburnt, off the One Little Indian record label, peaked at number eight on the U.K. albums charts. It was certified Platinum in the U.K. and Gold in the Netherlands. The band followed up the album with Stoosh, which also went Platinum in the U.K., and spawned the band's biggest hits, including "Brazen (Weep)," which reached number nine on the U.K. album charts, and “Hedonism (Just Because You Feel Good),"which reached number 14 on the U.K. album charts.

First formed in 1994, SKUNK ANANSIE broke up in 2001, then reformed again in 2009. Since then, the band has brought its signature mélange of funk, punk, hard rock and reggae to thousands of fans across Europe and the world. In both subject matter and sound, the band traffics in extremes: On any given album, lead singer/songwriter Skin may go from vehement critiques of racism, the treatment of women and the hypocrisy of organized religion—complete with blistering guitar contributions by Ace—to low-key, whisper-soft love ballads. This makes for searing, highly energetic live performances.

Given its unique sound, it's not surprising that SKUNK ANANSIE seeks absolute precision when it comes to recording an album. Skin and her band want listeners to feel like they are right there in the audience at a live show, thrilling as the band tears like a roller coaster through the highs and lows of its set. To help them recreate this in the studio environment, they use KRK’s ROKIT Powered 10-3 Studio Monitors. As with KRK’s entire ROKIT series, the ROKIT 10-3 monitors are renowned for delivering accurate monitoring in the studio. Designed to generate huge sound-pressure levels when the music demands it, yet maintain the clarity and transparency of a professional studio monitor, the ROKIT 10-3 delivers the power, accuracy and clarity demanded by SKUNK ANANSIE.

Due to a rotatable MF/HF baffle, KRK ROKIT 10-3 monitors can be positioned vertically or horizontally, allowing precise axis control. At the same time, glass Aramid composite creates rigid woofer and midrange cones for excellent transient response and accurate vocal reproduction. The KRK high-efficiency Tri-Amp triple amplification system provides discrete low-distortion power for each driver, while the company’s active three-way crossover systems provide smooth and accurate frequency response.

Currently on tour in Europe, SKUNK ANANSIE released its latest album, Black Traffic, in September of 2012.
